Delivering an integrated, sustainable design and construction solution
Ryan is currently constructing a new plant that will assemble wind turbine nacelles for Alstom Wind, North America in Amarillo, Texas. The 115,000-square-foot building is being constructed on a 19-acre site. When completed, in spring 2011, the facility will serve as the company’s manufacturing, energy development and sales divisions. Alstom Wind is a subsidiary of ALSTOM Power, Inc., an international power and transportation company with more than $30 billion in annual revenues and more than 80,000 employees worldwide.

Alstom Wind originally chose Ryan’s architectural & engineering services only for the project. The company chose Ryan for its ability to provide a complete solution — interior and landscape design, as well as consultant services for civil, structural, electrical and mechanical engineering—and for its superior integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) to visualize the project. The success of the architecture & engineering team through design development as well a competitive construction bid, led to Alstom awarding Ryan the construction as well.

LEED Strategies
In line with the company's “clean power” strategy, Alstom Wind asked Ryan to develop a facility design that would be eligible for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. The Ryan team incorporated many energy-efficient, water-saving and other green strategies to ensure a successful LEED project. These include a roof-mounted photovoltaic array to produce clean solar energy, and the reuse/re-purposing of 75% of the materials from the existing warehouse on-site into the finished facility.
