BIM and integrated team key to successful delivery In July 2008, LDI/Safco chose the site for its new east coast distribution hub in Virginia. Design had begun in late June, and Safco needed to be in its new facility by December. The deadline was imperative for Safco to accommodate a new product line at its shipping seasonal peak. Ryan was able to deliver the project on the extremely fast-tracked schedule. Construction began mid-July and took a record four-and-a-half months to complete.
Ryan’s integrated project delivery utilizing building information modeling (BIM) was key to delivering the project on time. It allowed for extremely accurate design collaboration despite the schedule parameters. Ryan also worked very closely with the County planning and permitting department to phase permitting sets, which allowed for a phased, fast-track schedule — a first for the County, but a process they hope to embrace on other projects. Ryan also worked very closely with the owner to ensure decisions were made in a timely manner. Not only was Ryan able to deliver the building LDI/Safco wanted on-time, but the team had an outstanding safety record — 67,000 man hours without any injuries.
