Assisting mercy in creating patient-centered care
In an effort to provide the highest quality of innovative patient care, Mercy Medical Center asked Ryan and architectural partner HGA to convert their existing Surgery Center into a Cardiac-Stroke Center. This is the first phase of an overall plan to convert all of the hospital's nursing units into single-patient rooms. To bring natural light into each patient room, Ryan had to cut 21 new seven feet tall by fifteen feet wide windows into the exterior wall nine stories in the air.
The renovations took place immediately above the Intensive Care Unit. Naturally, the service to the ICU could not be interrupted. Ryan worked carefully, following Class III ICRA (Infectious Control Risk Assessment) guidelines, tenting work areas and using negative air machines to keep patients safe and comfortable.
