Ryan and UNL partner again on a renovation
Ryan has partnered with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on three previous residence halls and a dining hall prior to collaborating on the University’s plan to update and renovate Abel and Sandoz Residence Halls and link the halls and their dining hall with a large common space known as the Welcome Center.
Abel and Sandoz were built in the late 1960s and several significant updates and renovations were needed. The most urgent need is to replace the two-pipe HVAC system with a four-pipe heat-pump system, which allows students to have greater control over their room temperature and conserves energy. Ryan completed the first phase, the renovation of half the 13-story Abel Hall, in just 11 weeks while students were home on summer break. Phase two included the demolition of an unused swimming pool building south of the dining center for the Welcome Center. This the team completed in time to have open when the students returned from spring break in 2009.
