Mercy Medical Center
Assisting Mercy in creating patient-centered care
In an effort to provide the highest quality of innovative patient care, Mercy Medical Center asked Ryan and architectural partner HGA to convert their existing Surgery Center into a Cardiac-Stroke Center. This is the first phase of an overall plan to convert all of the hospital's nursing units into single-patient rooms. To bring natural light into each patient room, Ryan cut 21 new seven-by-fifteen foot windows into the exterior wall nine stories in the air.
The renovations took place directly above the Intensive Care Unit. The critical ICU services could not be interrupted, so Ryan diligently followed class III ICRA (Infectious Control Risk Assessment) guidelines, tenting work areas and using negative air machines to keep patients safe and comfortable.
