Ryan design-builds a corporate hangar and aviation offices
Principal Financial's corporate hangar was the last corporate hangar site at Des Moines, Iowa's International Airport. To meet Principal's requirements, Ryan and architectural partner OPN had to be creative with the space limitations. In addition, Principal wanted to maximize the jet hangar floor area and height to accommodate the future growth of their jet fleet. The allowable height was restricted, however, due to the airport no-obstructions air rights requirements.
Ryan met Principal's need for space by relocating an existing 7,800 square-foot, pre-engineered airport maintenance building a half mile across the airport runway via house-moving tractor trailer equipment. They also relocated Des Moines Airport fiber optics communication hub, and designed and installed an underground 15,000-gallon jet fuel storage tank and pump cabinet for re-fueling the Principal jets.
