Ryan delivers a flexible, patient-centric environment
Locating their new clinic in Hiawatha Business Center provided Smiley's with a premier location on the Hiawatha Light Rail Line and a larger space with opportunity to expand. But it also presented some challenges. Primarily, how to create an adaptable, efficient, patient-centric environment with complex technical requirements (including an X-ray room and a pharmacy) within an office/warehouse facility.

An example is privacy. Each room required soundproofing to protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations. To avoid building the walls to the ceiling deck while ensuring privacy, Ryan installed a ceiling tile with a higher STC rating, along with white noise and sound insulation. This offered considerable cost savings and met HIPAA's requirements. Also, 10% of the walls are a demountable wall system, which provides considerable cost savings should Smiley's need to reconfigure their space. The result is a highly flexible, efficient and cost effective space that meets Smiley's technical and patient requirements.
