Research and redesign saved the University $30 million
Working closely with the University to research and evaluate their needs for a new student housing facility, Ryan partnered with Ellerbe Beckett to provide a functional and cost effective design alternative that lead to a $30 million savings to the University. The residential living units in Riverbend Commons provide a total of 424 beds for undergraduates, graduates and visitors to the university. The 1,915-stall underground six-level parking garage is constructed directly under the housing complex.
The South Mall area visually and physically links the University of Minnesota's campus to the Mississippi River. The Upper South Mall is predominantly decorative concrete and lawn areas with trees to complement the character of the Northrop Mall, and the building to complement the renovation of Coffman Memorial Union, also completed by Ryan in December 2002.
