For subcontractors
We don't do it alone. Having the best subcontractors on our projects strongly contributes to our success. That's why we focus on building partnerships that last with our subcontractors. Ryan has a straightforward subcontractor registration process. To find out more about how to become a Ryan-registered subcontractor, just click on the Connect with Ryan link to your right.
Top 5 reasons why subcontractors like to work with Ryan:
- Stability. Ryan has been in construction for 70 years. This past year, our revenue exceeded $1 billion. Even when the market is slow, we have work and finances to weather the storm.
- Teamwork. As a design-builder, we like to include our subcontractors in the earliest stages of preconstruction. You are a critical part of the team and will have real input through the design-build process.
- Safety. Ryan has one of the best safety records in the industry. We have a disciplined job site safety orientation and process that spans the duration of the project. Safety isn't something just mentioned once, it's a daily way of life on our job sites.
- Quality. We always strive to delivery the highest quality possible to our customers. Subcontractor performance is key to being able to do that. Ryan project managers and superintendents track subcontractor performance in five areas: project administration, jobsite performance, quality of design, fairness and competitiveness of pricing and safety of field operations.
- Respect. Subcontractors regularly tell us how much they appreciate the level of respect and fairness they are shown by Ryan's people. To us, you're a part of the team! Ryan honors subcontractors every year in each of our markets for safety and for customer service.
Emerging Business and Workforce Inclusion Initiative
This initiative was created to meet the changing demands of the construction marketplace, and to extend Ryan’s mission to build lasting relationships with vendors, subcontractors and to communities in which we work. The primary goal of the initiative is to increase the dollars subcontracted to Minority and Women Business Enterprises (M/WBEs) in all our offices nationwide.
The initiative focuses on increasing real and tangible ways to provide more opportunity for M/WBEs to perform on Ryan projects. This includes increasing access to bid opportunities; providing cash flow mechanisms; and training, developing and mentoring M/WBEs through partnerships.
To also increase the number of women and people of color working in the construction industry, Ryan has entered into several strategic partnerships with industry organizations such as the National Association of Minority Contractors (NAMC), the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Women Contractors (AWC). We also participate in a number of initiatives locally. A few examples are:
- CENTURY COLLEGE’S GIRL POWER DAY — Ryan site supervision team designs and delivers a hands-on construction activity to introduce young girls to construction. They also introduce the girls to women role models within the industry.
- CHICAGO BUILDER’S ASSOCIATION’S CONSTRUCTION CAREER OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM: A COMMUNITY PARNTERSHIP AT DAWSON TECHNICAL INSTITUTE — The goals of this program include: providing construction companies with an expanded supply of new workers to help offset the aging of the construction workforce; assisting companies in meeting city residency hiring goals on projects; improving relations between construction companies and the urban neighborhoods in which they are working; and increasing the number of people of color in the construction industry at the point of entry.
- PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL OUTREACH — As a part of the outreach commitments made on the Midtown Exchange project, more than 20 Ryan professionals have presented to juniors and seniors involved in construction education. Presentation topics have included architecture, mechanical engineering, safety, project management, site supervision and the role of the developer. These presentations have been so successful we have made them an ongoing feature of our outreach program.
Ryan's Emerging Business and Workforce Inclusion Initiative will continue to evolve and grow to meet the needs of our customers, the industry and the community. We have a track record of setting aggressive inclusion goals and exceeding them and we will continue to do so. And we will continue to build lasting relationships with the M/WBE community to ensure the greater inclusion of women and people of color on Ryan projects over the long-term.
