Local Companies Honored for Increasing Opportunities for Minority Companies in the Construction Industry
MINNEAPOLIS (October 3, 2006) The Construction Partnering Program (CPP), started by the City of Saint Paul and managed by MEDA, held its annual awards reception on October 2, 2006, to honor those firms in the construction industry that have worked to increase opportunities for ethnic minority and women-owned businesses within their industry.
The awards were announced at an evening reception at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis attended by participating members of the CPP and Minneapolis and Saint Paul city officials.
The award for Best Minority Business Partner in the CPP was won by Mtec Electric. Mtec Electric is a 45 person electrical contracting firm in Minneapolis.
The award for Best Majority Business Partner in the CPP was won by Hunt Electric Corporation.
The award for Best Partnering Relationship was won by Bald Eagle Erectors, Inc and Sowles Company.
The award for the Best Construction Project utilizing CPP members was won by the Midtown Exchange. Ryan Companies US, Inc. was the lead developer in rejuvenating the old Sears building on Lake Street into this vibrant new edition to the community.
The CPP began as an initiative of the City of Saint Paul in 1996. The program’s objective is to develop competitive, self-sufficient women and ethnic minority firms in the construction and construction-related industry by creating partnerships between them and majority general contractors. The program has over 40 participating firms and is supported by 13 non-profit organizations and governmental agencies.
