MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Minnesota-based Best Power Int’l, LLC and Westwood Renewables, LLC were awarded the Minneapolis Convention Center 600kW rooftop PV solar project. Best Power, the project owner and operator, is teaming with Westwood Renewables to provide the design, engineering, and program management for the project.

Westwood Renewables recently completed the 400kW St. John’s Solar Farm in Collegeville, Minnesota, the state’s largest solar installation to date. Westwood Renewables will collaborate with sister company, Westwood Professional Services for site surveys and design support.

Additional Minnesota companies involved in the project include Ryan Companies US, Inc., overseeing construction and Hunt Electric, providing electrical contracting. Hunt Electric was also a project partner for the Saint John’s Solar Farm.  

The Minneapolis project will consist of 2,613 panels of photovoltaic (PV) modules on part of the convention center's roof. One-third would be oriented for maximum energy capture, one third to capture solar energy at the building's peak energy use, and another third for Xcel Energy's peak demand. The rooftop installation would cover the equivalent of nearly two and a half football fields and supply power to the Convention Center.  
The Minneapolis City Council approved the project team on January 29.  The project is expected to begin construction in early summer pending final approval of a $2 million grant from the Xcel Energy’s Renewable Development Fund.
