MINNEAPOLIS (December 13, 2007) – Ryan Companies US, Inc., announced today that The Hartford, one of the nation’s leading providers of investment and insurance products, has chosen Ryan to design and build a new regional office in New Hartford, New York. The three-story, 130,000 square-foot office building, situated on 13.5 acres in New Hartford Business Park, will help the company consolidate operations, bringing an estimated 690 employees under one roof when construction is completed in November 2008.
This build-to-suit for lease office is the fourth Design-Build office development project that Ryan has completed for The Hartford. Past Ryan projects for The Hartford include development and construction services for an operations center in Santee, California that featured a special infrastructure to minimize downtime and losses during critical events such as a fire or earthquake. In San Antonio, Texas, Ryan developed a 100,000 square foot regional operations center that featured Texas Hill County architecture along with an efficient 33,000 square-foot floorplate. Ryan also designed and developed a 100,000 square-foot regional operations center in Maple Grove, Minnesota, a project that continued the theme of cost-effective design and construction yielding award-winning results; the project received a Best in Real Estate award from the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.

The new building, designed by Ryan architects, features a slim, engaging entry that uses large sliding planar elements and wrapped glazing, drawing the eye to the dramatic vertical main entry and lobby. The entry is bookended by brick and glass wings featuring modular, high quality durable materials that save installation time and reduce construction waste. The resulting façade accommodates both budget and schedule constraints without sacrificing the aesthetic impact of the building.
Ryan also continued a theme of sustainability in the site engineering, with on-site ponding and treatment. Engineers also recommended situating the building on the site to maximize solar exposure, capturing solar heat during the winter to help lower energy costs during the long winter months in upstate New York.
