Ryan Companies US, Inc. Managing Construction of Community Health Care's 18,750-sq.-ft. Medical Facility; Rock Island opening Planned for Late 2011
Davenport, Iowa (March 31, 2011)—Community Health Care, Inc., based in Davenport, Iowa, has selected Ryan Companies US, Inc. in Davenport to manage the construction of an 18,750-square-foot medical and dental clinic facility in Rock Island, Ill.
Community Health Care and Ryan plan to break ground on the $3 million project in early April. Completion of the project is expected by the end of the year. The overall project, which includes new surface parking for nearly 100 vehicles, will be built in phases, allowing Ryan to begin on the new building as the existing 23,000-square-foot building is razed.
The project was made possible as a result of federal funding awarded to Community Health Care back in October 2010 as part of the Affordable Care Act. According to Community Health Care, In the Quad Cities, there is a significant need to build up the infrastructure necessary to meet the growing demand for primary medical and dental care. Accordingly, the Affordable Care Act is expected to cover an additional 32 million Americans with health insurance in 2014, furthering the need for expansion in primary care infrastructure. Community Health Care is already one of the area’s largest providers of primary health care.
Founded in 1975, Community Health Care offers a medical and dental home for all those in need in the Quad Cities area. It also acts as a safety net for people who, for financial, social or cultural reasons, cannot access primary health care elsewhere in the community. Community Health Care offers preventive, acute and chronic care, as well as laboratory, X-ray, pharmacy, nutrition and health education services. Without Community Health Care, many patients would rely on emergency rooms during crisis, or go without care altogether.
The new, single-story building, at 2750 11th St., will be constructed with steel framing and brick and stucco veneer. Ryan worked with the design team to allow Community Health Care to operate more efficiently with a growing clientele.
The facility will include space for eight dental rooms, 12 adult exam rooms and 10 pediatric exam rooms. The rest of the building will be used for offices, laboratories, nursing stations and administrative space. A 2,900-square-foot auditorium and meeting room has been incorporated into the design and will be available for educational purposes and public meetings.
“We are pleased to be part of Community Health Care's commitment to offering access to quality, affordable medical and dental care to this Quad Cities community," said Brian Harry, Ryan Companies' project manager for the project. "This is our third project with Community Health Care and it's great to see a local company growing and having such a positive impact on the community."
Community Health Care has locations throughout the Quad Cities in Davenport, Iowa, and Moline and Rock Island, Ill.
Ryan Companies is the construction manager for the project. KJWW Engineering Consultants, based in Rock Island, is the structural engineering firm and McClure Engineering Associates of East Moline, Ill., is providing civil engineering services. The interior design work is being provided by Pigott, Inc., of Davenport, Iowa.
