Naperville, Ill. (October 3, 2012)— Underwood Crossing, a Class A, approximately 175,000-square-foot, Target-anchored retail center developed by Ryan Companies US, Inc. in Brookfield, Wisc. has been named retail development of the year by the Commercial Association of Realtors Wisconsin (CARW).

“There have been many people and organizations who have been intimately involved in the success of developing Underwood Crossing,” said Tony Barranco, vice president of development, Ryan Companies US, Inc.  “We are honored to accept this award from the Commercial Association of Realtors Wisconsin, and do so with gratitude for all of those people who played a role in the development.”

Underwood Crossing is located immediately north of Interstate 94 at the southeast corner of the intersection of West Bluemound Road and Columbia Boulevard. The Target store, which opened in July, totals 140,000 square feet. Additional retail space includes a Trader Joe’s and a PNC Bank. These retailers are expected to open in early November. There are additional outlots for community convenience retail space currently available.

“We have always believed that Underwood Crossing was a great opportunity to restore an old brownfield site and deliver a unique project and amenities back to the community,” Barranco added. “From the recycling of construction materials to the use of natural elements and processes to the involvement of the local community, this has been a rare opportunity. We are glad to have been part of it.”

As part of the overall development plan, Ryan facilitated the donation of a four-acre land site at the south side of the site to the city of Brookfield. That parcel allowed an existing and popular community park to be expanded. Ryan also preserved a 75-foot span of trees on the western edge of the property along a berm between the site and the nearby Columbia Gardens residential subdivision.
