Stylish and sustainable, the highly anticipated Oceanside SpringHill Suites is a 149-room, all-suite hotel project with restaurant, located in downtown Oceanside, California. The six-story Oceanside SpringHill Suites features a sixth-level pool deck and fitness facility, an independent restaurant with patio seating, public meeting space and below grade valet parking for all guests.

Having worked with Ryan on a prior pursuit, Sage Hospitality looked to us again when this opportunity arose. Throughout the course of the project, Ryan provided development assistance, preconstruction services, assistance with entitlements and design-build general contractor services. A great construction team and a positive working relationship with Marriott eventually led to more work on another Marriott project.

The hotel was designed with an eye toward efficiency and environmental friendliness, exceeding the standards of the California Energy Code by more than 20 percent. Following completion, the building was certified LEED-NC Silver by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Customization & Creativity

A historically basic brand becomes "Best Custom Hotel".

Though the SpringHill Suites brand had historically been characterized as “traditional,” the owner set out to bring it to the level of “boutique.” Ryan took the parameters of the brand and worked to customize the hotel, considering the local context to make the new edition fit the feel of Oceanside, a beach town undergoing significant renewal efforts.

Initially this involved from-scratch development of the conceptual framework with notes on details, estimates and methodology. This intrigued the customer enough to secure the deal and we began the process of developing the drawings into a more realistic plan for design and construction, complete with a workable budget.

Though formerly unheard of for the SpringHill Suites brand, the decision to put the pool on the roof made this hotel truly unique, while increasing the value of the property. Without question, it is the hotel’s star feature. Ryan walked step-by-step with the architect throughout the course of the project in working out the details of the exterior, while incorporating distinctive interior finishes.

The end result was a SpringHill Suites hotel with a “boutique” vibe that fits the unique character of the community.  As a result, it won Marriott’s award for Best Custom Hotel.
