Canopy by Hilton Scottsdale Old Town

Canopy by Hilton in Scottsdale, AZ, welcomes visitors to the revitalized and growing neighborhood of Old Town. The seven-story, 177-room, LEED-certified hotel is walking distance from the Arts District, providing tourists easy access to galleries, cultural venues, entertainment and retail. Taking inspiration from the adjacent Museum of the West, Canopy’s exterior uses similar materials, such as weathered steel, board-form concrete and smooth-troweled stucco. The boutique hotel features a rooftop amenity deck with a pool, bar and stunning views of Camelback Mountain and the city skyline of Tempe, AZ. Canopy offers guests a lounge and café, fitness center and art gallery. Fine art from the museum’s collection is displayed on rotation.

Our construction team began the project during a busy tourist season due to nearby baseball training. The project also had a zero-property line, with the hotel’s east side directly against an existing building. To mitigate impact, we shored up the line and structured our schedule to preserve access for businesses across the alley. We set up vibration monitoring before embarking on the most challenging construction aspect—the 170-spot underground parking ramp, an infill project that required excavation 22 feet below grade. We successfully navigated additional challenges including the nearby residential community’s construction restrictions and the COVID-19 pandemic, keeping the project moving forward.
