Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.

Overview
Designed in collaboration with OPN Architects, Pioneer Hi-Bred International’s new Beaver Creek facility boasts state-of-the-art laboratories for 400 researchers, allowing Pioneer to expand its cutting-edge plant genetics research and help farmers increase agricultural productivity. Open communication, clear expectations and a collaborative approach were essential to creating a facility that met Pioneer's need for a highly-specialized space on an expedited timeline.
Ryan began the process by ensuring all members of the design team understood the building’s desired form and function. Bringing architectural, structural, civil and MEP design-build partners together with Pioneer design representatives and Ryan ownership, we made sure everyone was aligned so there would be no surprises later on. This understanding went beyond simple project planning; it created a shared vision that all parties could embrace and work toward. Because construction took place in two separate phases over a span of five years, the team needed to stay abreast of changing industry practices and procedures. Achieving the ideal outcome required constant communication, including regular and accurate financial updates to Pioneer and clear expectations for subcontractors undertaking various aspects of the project.
The result is a beautiful new facility that serves as a key investment in the Pioneer global growth plan. In the two years prior to this project, Pioneer had expanded by more than 500 employees and 130,000 square feet of office and laboratory space in central Iowa. Successful completion of the Beaver Creek facility was essential to accommodating the company's rapidly growing business, and Ryan more than delivered.
