Principal 711 High Street and Principal 750 Park Street are part of Principal Financial Group’s $284 million initiative to overhaul more than 1.2 million SF of office space on their Des Moines campus.
The first part of this project, the complex and fast-track 750 Park Street renovation, right-sized a cafeteria and created conferencing and training space and skywalk. We were able to bid out the project, begin reviewing drawings, and start demolition all within the first week, and we used mobile plan stations to keep the team current on the rapidly evolving designs. We worked on half the building at a time, paying careful attention to noise levels and traffic areas to minimize disruption.
Restoring 711 High Street, the campus centerpiece, involved removing the core of the square seven-story structure to add a grand glassed-in atrium. The roof was raised to create a clerestory common area, and skywalks were brought to a single level to enhance circulation across the campus. The work we did on 750 Park Street enabled us to bring valuable constructability and coordination lessons to the table.
