Project Overview

Sometimes, an old relationship can lead to a new customer. Such was the case with Ryan, SUPERVALU and Save-A-Lot. Save-A-Lot is one of the nation’s leading hard-discount grocery retailers and a wholly owned subsidiary of SUPERVALU. Ryan’s relationship with SUPERVALU stretches back 40 years and includes a number of successful projects across the country. Seeing Ryan’s growing specialty in food distribution and knowing that SUPERVALU viewed Ryan as a trusted collaborator, Save-A-Lot chose Ryan to design and construct its new 330,000-SF refrigerated food distribution center in Lexington, NC.

Completing the new facility on a tight ten month timeline was essential for supporting Save-A-Lot stores and enabling future growth in the region. Despite encountering a number of challenges on the site, including troublesome deep cuts and fills during earthwork and the relocation of an existing city-controlled water line, we successfully completed the project on schedule. The new state-of-the-art facility boasts the latest in green technologies and energy efficiency, including motion-sensing lights, an HVAC system with smart thermostats, LED lighting in the freezer areas to reduce energy consumption and heat load and a white roofing membrane on the exterior for better heat management.

The construction of the Lexington distribution center was so successful that Save-A-Lot has since tapped Ryan to lead several other projects across the country. From first-time customer to ongoing partner, Ryan is proud to continue building our relationship with Save-A-Lot well into the future.
