Ryan has partnered with Target on many projects over the years, from office space to distribution facilities to data centers. But more than anything else, we’ve partnered on Target stores—thousands of them across the continent since building their first in 1962. With each new store, we bring the insight gained from previous projects to increase efficiency and create the best experience possible.
Although construction of the Target Del Sur store in San Diego, CA was delayed several years due to city planning and review, Ryan restarted and fast tracked the project to include all current Target prototype designs. Building off a prototype design often poses a significant challenge because all of the design defects have yet to be resolved. In order to work out the defects with Target in a timely manner, our team rethought the construction process. We examined logistics and programming, analyzed procurement and sequencing, and developed new efficiencies while coordinating with other developers working in the district.
The result is a unique, single-story Target store that includes a new liquor department with exposed ceiling and floating faux wood aluminum beams, and a new online fulfillment services center for shipping goods directly to local customers. By tapping into our years of experience, and collaborating and communicating with Target throughout the project, Ryan was able to deliver an innovative new store that exceeds the high expectations of the Black Mountain Ranch community.
The superintendent, project manager and the Ryan team are first class Target brand managers. They epitomize professionalism and customer service. This was a great experience and partnership; I look forward to future projects with Ryan Companies.
