June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate the contributions and history of the LGTBQA+ community. Our Employee Resource Group, Building Pride, promotes and advocates for the LGTBQA+ community by focusing on creating an inclusive and accepting environment.

To celebrate Pride, four members of Building Pride shared what this month means to them—and how their involvement in our ERG helps foster a more inclusive workplace. Hear from:

  • Amanda Marcott, Project Architect
  • Ashley Wurster, Vice President of Interior Design
  • Renee Pinkney, Stewardship & Engagement Program Manager
  • Ronda Miranda, Senior VDC Manager

What does Pride Month mean to you, and how do you celebrate it?

Amanda Marcott: Pride Month, to me, is about celebrating the love of the people I love. It’s a powerful reminder that creating space for people’s joy, identity and belonging is always the right thing to do.

During Pride Month, I enjoy volunteering at the Ryan Pride events—a time I use to reflect on how I can continue to show up for others, not just during this month, but every day. It’s a reminder that advocacy shouldn’t be limited to just one month. Whether it’s standing up for someone on a job site, in a meeting, or designing spaces where everyone feels safe and seen—there are everyday ways to be the kind of person others can count on.

Renee Pinkney: Pride is a time to celebrate the amazing members of the Pride community including many of my friends, family and co-workers. I celebrate by attending local Pride festivities and bringing my kids along. It is beautiful to see our communities celebrating all individuals for who they are and demonstrating acceptance and love for the young people in our lives.

Ashley Wurster: Pride month means supporting our community with love, inclusivity and fun!

Ronda Miranda: It’s a general recognition from a more public arena. I do try to attend at least a parade and often the local festivities.

What advice would you give to other LGBTQA+ professionals looking to start or advance their career in commercial real estate?

Ronda Miranda: Focus on professionalism and building strong relationships—don’t expect special treatment, and don’t assume that everyone will fully understand your experience. Respect for the individuality of those around you goes a long way and is often more impactful than symbolic gestures, like waving a flag.

Why is it important to have initiatives and efforts like Building Pride within companies like Ryan and our industry?

Amanda Marcott:  Initiatives like Building Pride are essential because being able to show up authentically at work is a fundamental part of who we are. At Ryan, our core values include Family, Integrity, Safety, and Respect, which can only be fully realized when every member of our Ryan Family feels safe, valued and respected by their colleagues and in the place they work. Creating a culture where people are met where they are and empowered to be themselves not only fosters inclusion but also allows everyone to thrive and bring their whole selves to work each day.

Ronda Miranda: The construction industry has made significant strides since I started, but there’s still room for growth. Initiatives like Building Pride foster fellowship, creating a sense of safety and belonging that ultimately strengthens team cohesion and workplace culture.

Describe the purpose and mission of Building Pride to someone who’s never heard of it before.

Ronda Miranda: To be a general resource for anyone who identifies as a member of LGBTQIA+ or otherwise would like to be an ally to show support.

What is a favorite memory or moment you have with Building Pride so far?

Ronda Miranda: Our very first panel discussion stands out as a favorite moment. I had the honor of being a panelist, and the preparation leading up to it, along with the positive reception across Ryan, made it a truly impactful experienc
