The Little Potato Company, based in Edmonton, Alberta, is the world’s leader in creamer potatoes. The company sells its specialty potatoes in the US and Canada through a variety of retail outlets. When Little Potato decided to expand their operations, they turned to Ryan to help develop a parcel of land in DeForest, Wisconsin, and lead the construction of their first processing facility in the United States.
Constructed of steel beams, columns and insulated precast concrete wall panels, the building includes 11,730 square feet of office space and 121,000 square feet of cooler, dry warehouse and processing space. The cooler space is expandable to accommodate the company’s projected growth. Other features of the project include 30-foot clear ceiling heights in the warehouse area, nine dock doors, two overhead drive-in doors and 130 stalls for employee parking.
Despite an accelerated timeline, the Ryan team was able to deliver a standout project by closely collaborating with the customer and laying out the timeline to identify critical path items in advance. The Little Potato Company announced it would develop a new processing facility in DeForest in April. Ryan announced the acquisition of the DeForest land parcel in May, and construction officially began on the site later that month. Less than a year later, The Little Potato Company employs approximately 50 people, growing to approximately 130 full-time employees when fully operational. All represent new jobs and are expected to have a significant positive impact on the surrounding community.
